Description

This is the area right next to the Lagoon Nebula, so it doesn’t get as much attention from imagers, but it has a lot of interesting features. Most photos tend to refer to the whole area as NGC6559, but that’s really just the reflection nebula at lower left. The broader area is known as Sh2-29, but there are numerous IC, Barnard, and LDN catalog entries here. My favorite is IC1274, which is the semi-circular reflection nebula toward the upper-left. The small reflection nebula at the very top is IC4684. The little dark rivulets at the center are Barnard 302 and 303. At the bottom, there is a crazy-shaped planetary nebula, Minkowski 1-41.
